Why is it called an after eight mint?

Silly dinner conversation.

Why is it called an after eight mint?
because after you have eaten eight of them you have had enuff.
Reply:These are generally recognised as the polite companies beer-o-meter, if you are drunk enough to indulge in one of these gas inducing slivers of mint chocolate confectionary, you'll probably be drunk enough to make a pass at either the hostess, your girlfriends best friend or mother and in extreme circumstances your sister... how many drinks is the fulcrum of this test... yup you guessed it after 8....

Reply:People used to have dinner earlier in the old days. So dinner was pretty much over by 8 p.m. and then they popped this. Mint for breath and chocolate as an aphrodisiac.

Reply:designed to be eaten in the evening after a main meal - it's chocolate and mint but also a kind of palette cleanser at the same time... (or so the theory goes...)

Reply:so that you know not to eat them before 8am yes thats right I said 8am. because eating chocolate before 8am is just wrong!

finished with a very expensive truffle. Nestle wanted to find there

way into that market and came out with this dark chocolate filled

with a very creamy mint filling. The wrapper could not be any warpper it had to be a step above the rest. Then the name had

to get the attention. So it became the After Eight Mint which also

was put on the pillow at the most expensive hotels.
