NOT from seed - they're really tricky to germinate. Buy young plants and put them in larger pots. Don't plant them out in the garden unless you want them to take over the whole place! They're very easy to look after.
What is the best way to grow mint?
mint is one of the easiest herbs to grow...i just put it in the earth amongst other stuff and it's fine...can spread ...but you can use a window box, grow bag or pots
Reply:Ahhhh mint,I adore it. I've had it invade a whole side of my house, and that was okay. Now I have it growing in a planter box. It's very easy to grow and take care of. But it can be very invasive.
Reply:Definately grow it in a container unless you want it to take over your land. It spreads like wildfire and is hard to remove once it invades.
Reply:As far as I am concerned mint grows like a weed, it is by far one of the easiest plants to grow in the garden I have at least 5 different varieties. It is too bad you do not know anybody that has mint in there yard because I give mint away on a normal basis. I love the fact that you can smell the mint when the wind blows and the different varieties are a little different in appearance which I really like. One of my favorites is called "curly mint" it is not as aggressive as some of the other mints in the garden and it does curl. But as far as I am concerned all perennial flower beds need at least one form of Mint in these gardens.
Reply:Hmm you have had a lot of answers but none like this so
just take a piece about 6 inches (150mills) take off the bottom leaves leaving about 4 place in a glass of water, say covering 1/3 of your cutting, in indirect sunlight
change the water every couple of days
you will see roots appear
plant into pot with some potting mix
keep it moist but not over wet
it enjoys partial sun
each time you pass it pick off a few leaves to eat, yum yum

Reply:Hi:
I have germinated thousands of seedlings in a greenhouse and indoors my home. Mint is a wonderful herb to grow. It is very easy to grow and does well in a container. Once it is established and you put in the ground, it will spread and can take over a garden area.
The key is purchasing a light weight potting soil with no bark. Add some vermiculite and humus to the soil. Add hot water to the soil mixture as this is wonderful for the root systems to get established. I will link you to the spices and herb section of my website. There is a page growing herbs that may be helpful. I also have a page in that section on mint.
I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through as there are many articles, tips and techniques that could be useful to use. Good luck with your mint and have a great day!

Reply:In a pot, because it spreads like crazy! I have been successful with growing various types of mints in pots on my deck, and I have also grown mint in an old shrub container that we buried in the garden--top edge of pot at ground level.
Sometimes it overwinters just fine in the pots, and sometimes it doesn't, and I have to start over. In the ground it survives winter very well. It does have a tendency to overgrow everything else, so keep that in mind when you plant it. And one little seedling will become a large mass in no time!
Reply:In a pot! dont put it in the garden unless you just want to grow mint!
Reply:just remove the leaves from the good stem and put the stem on the pot.water it new leaves will come and spread
Reply:Buy a plant or get one with the roots entact from someone else. Plant it in a raised bed or half barrel and it will pretty much take care of itself. You should water it once in a while.
Do not plant it in the ground unless you have a way to contain it or it will take over your yard in no time flat
