I just want to know if there are other plants which looks and smell the same but are actually something else, especially if it is potentially toxic.
I have a plant that is growing beside my house, and I have pulled it up several times (with alot of other weeds) and it keeps on growng back. It obviously is very hardy, it is growing in rocky ground beside concret, and we live near Sydney Australia (if locational temperature and envionment help in finding out what it is).
I would love to know.
Thank you everyone!
If it looks like mint, and smells like mint, is it mint?
I don't know anything else that smells like mint and there are quite a few varieties with different scents including one that is almost like lemon. Mint is a tough plant and spreads quickly if it gets a chance so it sounds like that is what you have got.
Anything in the mint family has rich volatile oils giving the scent and there is nothing similar that is dangerous.
Unlike parsley which has a dangerous look-alike!
Reply:There is chocalate mint, pineapple mint, spearment, cinnamon mint etc...many varieties , but I know nothing else that smells like it other than other mint species..about 1000 types..

Reply:Sounds like mint! Mint is very hardy and does grow back from the roots. If you leave it, mint will have fluffy, pale blue or mauve flower heads on it eventually. That could be a way to check.
Reply:It could be
Reply:Mint ALWAYS has square stems, and if it has a strong mint smell, it probably is. There are other strongly scented herbs and weed out there, but none other has that same smell. I have a strong peppermint in my yard, and I always chew some leaves when I have an upset stomach, also make tea with it and it is a really good breath freshener after garlic pizza!
Reply:plants in the mint faimly have square like stems not round. feel for edges on the stem.
Reply:Then it s mint but still un sure check with your mom
Reply:It must be mint. I know it will take over an area like weeds if left unchecked. The only thing mint about it is the oil with in. The plant tastes like any ol' regular weed. I tried it when I was a kid.
