My Cat LOVES mint toothpaste, is it bad for him?

my cat will chew open toothpaste tubes to get to the paste, he even attacks my face while i am trying to brush, does any one know why he loves it so much, and is there stuff in there that will hurt him?

dont worry i hide my tooth brush and tooth paste since i have found out he will do anything for it...its like catnip to him!

My Cat LOVES mint toothpaste, is it bad for him?
Toothpaste isn't good for cats.

There are compounds in it that damages kidneys and, generally, it's not good for them.

Instead, buy him a mint plant. They're cheap and grow like weeds. He can roll in it to his heart's content, and it's perfectly safe, even healthy for him.
Reply:I'm serious. Why in the hell haven't these dentists found an anti-cavity that is not so unsafe? Report It
Reply:yes it is BAD for them, some toothpaste contains silica and artificial sweeteners among other chemicals which are harmful to animals- people shouldn't swallow toothpaste and cats should definitely NOT eat it. get one of those see through boxes with a snap on lid and keep it away from kitty. It's just like keeping things away from babies.
Reply:Assuming you use fluoridated toothpaste, fluoride is hugely toxic to animals AND humans.

If your cat actually was able to eat the whole tube (without vomiting), the fluoride in a small tube of fluoridated toothpaste would kill the cat.

Children have died from swallowing too many of their fluoride supplements. One child died from swallowing instead of expectorating his fluoride treatment at the dentist.

Fluoridated toothpaste should be kept out of reach of children and animals
Reply:All these answers make me wonder why WE even use the stuff! It just sounds bad...
Reply:Fluoride is toxic to ingest, that is why you are not supposed to swallow it, and toddler toothpaste has no fluoride. Put your toothpaste where the cat can't get at it, (you do), and get some cat mint(different than cat nip) plants. He may have some kind of nutrient deficiency.
Reply:its not good for him, just like the package says, DO NOT SWALLOW, your cat is much smaller than you so it could harm him. put it away in a drawer or cupboard and shut the door when youre brushing!
Reply:Catnip is a plant in the mint family so it could be the mint in the toothpaste has a slightly similar effect as catnip on the cat. I had a cat years ago who would follow me around and try to lick my legs when I put Ben Gay on.

It is definitely not something the cat should be ingesting. Like others have said, humans aren't even supposed to swallow toothpaste so with a cat being about 1/20 the weight of a human it could be actually fatal to them. Keep your toothpaste in a drawer or medicine cabinet.
Reply:It's good that you hide it now. I don't think that would be very good for him since even humans aren't supposed to consume toothpaste, just use it and spit it out. I can relate, my cat loves the smell of room sprays, pledge, any cleaning supplies, makeup, hair products, anything that smells good. He's a trip!
Reply:toothpast can make your cat very sick!
Reply:Human toothpaste is bad for cats and dogs. It is loaded with abrasives for one, another is the chemicals which are in toothpaste are not good for ANYONE to ingest, human or animal. Put the toothpaste in a cabinet that the cat can't open.
Reply:yes dont let him have anymore
Reply:No - and he'll have a great smile
Reply:Yes tooth paste will probably constipate your cat
