How does money work? Who owns the Mint?

I'm a bit confused about how new money comes into circulation.

Who owns the Mint and how come they don't just print off loads of money for themselves?

How come poor countries don't just print off lots of money for themselfs and who is to say how much each country's mint is to print off?

Who is in charge of all the Mints worldwide?

And what happens to the money after it is printed, where does it go first and who gets it?

How does money work? Who owns the Mint?
The Federal Reserve is responsible for printing money. They have to balance politically sensitive tasks like managing inflation and interest rates without being influenced by the political climate.

If they were to print off loads of money for themselves, it would be worthless. The more money is available, the less it will buy. It loses purchasing power.

Poor countries that have done this (Argentina) have suffered severe economic effects. Reduced trade with the rest of the world because their money is worthless and reduced production of goods at home. Who wants to go to work when their money will be worthless by the time they get home?
Reply:The government owns the mint, through the Department of the treasury. Each country is responsible for their own money.

When the money is printed (and accounted for hundreds of times over) it is stored in facilities to be shipped out to the banks.

The money is backed by the promise that the government can cover it. The reason you don't print off billions of notes is that if you flood the market, the actual buying power of the money goes down and you have inflation (much like what happened to Germany after WWI)
Reply:the queen owns the mint in our country.
Reply:In America the American people own the mint. Some idiot sai the government own's the mint. The government doesn't own anything...they borrow everything from us tax payers...they are nothing but a welfare State who owes everything to us who work in the private sector.

WE OWN EVERYTHING...Period
