Yes, you can boot linux mint from a cd. Linux mint has also has an interface that is more friendly to those users who have experience with MS Windows. Xbuntu and Kbuntu also have live cds. There is a podcast for new linux users called Linux Reality which is quite good. You can also get Linux distro info at www.distrowatch.com
For ease of use, I have been really impressed with PCLinuxOS which also has a live cd.

just go to linuxmint download burn .iso and pop it in cd rom
mint is one of my favs.
you can go to ubuntu.com and request free cd's of xbun and kbun.
new 8.04 release is coming in April....
