How can i grow mint i have tried all ways but it wont grow?
Try planting it somwhere you don't want it to grow.
Reply:Plant the plant and water it once or twice a week, depending on the heat. After that, usually the more you ignore it, the better it grows. Sometimes, the more attention you pay to a plant, the worse it grows. This is one of those plants.
Reply:Forget seeds they are difficult to germinate and I grow herbs commercially so I know. Take root cuttings from an established plant or buy a pot of mint and plant out in the garden. You'll have no further trouble.
Reply:Get seeds from garden centre and plant in pot. Not too much water, water in one corner to give mint chance to grow.

Or get a growing plant from garden centre or a cutting with root.
Reply:Mint grows like a weed so i wonder what you are doing wrong,do you have a garden, and where are you growing yours. You will need a large flower pot if you are growing in doors as the roots need space, water well each day,do not keep in the shade nor in hot windows.Out side i still plant in pots in the ground, remember me saying it grows like a weed, leaving in the pot helps to stop it spreading to much, use a good soil but on saying that mint will grow almost any where.
Reply:stop trying! you dont grow mint you plant it ...

thats where your going wrong...!
Reply:You do surprise me. When I grew mint it went wild and grew everywhere. It is normally very easy to grow. It could be something in your garden. Why don't you ask at the garden centre !!!!!
Reply:If you're trying to grow spearamint, you need to water it all of the time. I've seen lots of people plant them directly under a facet that's leaking outside so it's always getting a steady drip.
Reply:Our mint spreads like hell and never goes away.

Common mint should grow virtually anywhere and come back each year. Make sure the area gets lots of water. Best thing to do is to fill a big pot with soil and plant an entire packet of mint seeds, cover with about 1/2 inch of soil, water and wait.

Fresh mint sauce is wonderfull.
Reply:I grow mine in a plant pot outside the front window.
Reply:btalkjon has a wonderful answer. I've been growing mint in a pot for about five years now. I grew it from a seed packet and used Miracle Gro soil. When I originally started it I lived in Las Vegas. I kept it in a partially shady spot and watered it daily. Then I moved to northern California where it just thrived in the wonderful and slightly more moderate weather. I now live in west central Oregon where I still water it about every other day.

It does die back in the winter. I simply prune back the dead stuff, keep an eye on the pot and remain patient.

Don't be afraid to pluck leaves from the plant for cooking -- that encourages the plant's growth as well. It's been fun to add fresh mint to the various meals I cook.

I found some neat sites you might like to explore and have listed them below.

Good luck!
Reply:i dunno maybe u have clay soil or something, we just threw ours in the ground and kept it watered once in a while. very easy.
Reply:poor you with every one telling you how easy it is to grow mint. mint can suffer from mint rust which is a fungal infection. also there are a hundred + varieties and not all are hardy like peppermint, apple mint and spearmint in an area prone to frost, Moroccan mint is one of these. Its a good idea to grow mint in a big pot at least 12" wide, outside the door close to your kitchen that way it doesn't over run your garden and you don't have to get so wet on a rainy day picking it.

try potting up some of the runners in august that will be growing near the surface on top of you big pot - into a small pot to put on you window sill during the winter, as it wont die down and you will have a winter supply.

Mint is a member of the salvia family [labiatae] other members are burgamot, basil, sage, oregano and Mexican hyssop amongst many others including nettles. bog standard mint can also grow in the shade, this will stop it drying out so easily but the flavour will not be so strong as in the sun.
Reply:It depends on the soil itself. I know it doesn't grow well in clay soil, try buying a bag of gardening soil and plant them in it. Should work out nicely. I did that as a child and wow that stuff grew fast
Reply:Are you kidding. I can't keep the stuff out of my gardens. I am in a hot dry climate and the mint attracts flys. The mint I have just apprears. I have never planted seeds or sprouts. Maybe try to find some growing in the wild and transplant some.
Reply:Ours was free gowing in the garden. We couldn't kill it. Every year it managed to grow bigger even though, every autumn, we tried to pull it all up.
Reply:how about starting with an already established plant...kind of cheating i know.
Reply:wow, i didnt know it was hard to grow, this is my 1st time growing and its taking off like crazy. Ive got mine in an area that gets morning sun and is then shaded in the afternoon, an i keep it watered regularly.
