I am looking for the recipe for an Indian condiment. It's made of mint and parsley, maybe?

The only Indian restaurant in my town has closed, and I don't even know what this condiment is called, so I can't look up a recipe!

It is served cold or room temp., and seems to be just minced up herbs (mint, and maybe parsley?) and a little neutral liquid (water?).

Any help identifying this is much appreciated! Thanks.

Reply:We normally call it chutney in India.

And no it would not be parsley but corriander leaves (or cliantro as it is called in the US)

You can make a variety of chutneys from an assortment of condiments like mint, cilantro, tamarind pulp, green chillies, mango, garlic, ginger and even fresh grated coconut.

Here are some recipes - including maybe the green one you had!

Reply:I think you're talking about golguppa water. It is usually served with a hollow spherical cracker sorta thing. Or you might be talking about raita which is fresh herbs and cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, and other vegtables mixed with yogurt. Or you might be talking sbout chutney. There is a green chutney (sauce). If you grind up sime mint, parsley, onion, tomatoes, and salt (or sugar, it matters what you want it to taste like) you can make it. You can find a more detailed recipie if you do a search on the internet. You can also find it at your local indian food store.
Reply:Hi!

Type into your computer "NDTVcooks.com" and you will fina a website that belongs to a New Delhi television station. On the first screen that pops up is a masthead with things to click on, like gadgets, electronics ... and one that says "Recipes" ... then you may type in that little blank strip they all have "chutneys' /// I am sure you will be able to find your way around ... it is a very attractive website and much fun...

Have fun.
