When a recipe calls for fresh mint is it peppermint or spearmint?

There are a zillion mint plants, I think the one that grows the best is spearmint. Catnip is a mint plant. I always had a plant growing to make tea. It is good for stomach ailments. I just boil the leaves and sometimes add a teabag.

When a recipe calls for fresh mint is it peppermint or spearmint?
I would be interested to know where the first person found a "mint tree". There must be a nursery that I have not been to yet LOL. Spearmint and Peppermint can be interchanged. It depends on your personal taste. I grow both
Reply:Real mint, the herb that grows in the ground

Reply:That is a good question. I thought that the mint was just mint and spearmint and peppermint were just flavors.
Reply:I think either will do fine as I grow both and find them equally good to use.
Reply:IT IS JUST MINT...FROM A MINT TREE.
Reply:Do you really know the difference ???

I don't
