No difference in the plant itself, only the quality may be different. We also call mint 'nana' in Serbia, and we can tell the difference between the sweet mint and the wild variety, but in the end it's the same plant.

nana is spearmint. mediterranean spearmint in particular, although spearmint originated in the mediterranean. if the mint you get in london is spearmint, there's probably no difference at all, but if it's peppermint or some other type of mint, then it's self explanatory.
